Armed for Health Care, Insurance Public Policy Activism

Health care and insurance are two of the most profitable sectors of the American economy. Risk management specialists dictate policy which frequently conflicts with health care professionals codes of ethics. Escalating health care costs impacts government and families. Public policy and corporate practice frequently collides -- leaving employers, citizens and govermental officials struggling for solutions to life threatening issues. Corporate mergers in the hospital, medical supply and related industries has changed the landscape of American healthcare in the past few decades. Whistleblower legislation provides little protection to nursing professionals who advocate for patients rights or testify in malpractice suits. This site explores the delicate balance between ethics, corporate practices, governmental policy and law, and the roles of lobbyists and risk management specialists and their impact on ordinary American citizens in health care and personal homeowner / protection insurance arena.

SOCIAL SERVICES

FOR BASIC RESOURCES IN TEXAS:
Faced with a natural disaster, flood, fire, tornado, other crisis -- here's how to get help.
By Lauri Wiss, MSSW emeritus
The most important place to start is calling 211.
This number works throughout Texas! 211 is for information and referral services :
food, clothing and shelter
domestic violence, child abuse, or elder abuse information is available..
Medical and Mental Health information is available.
Work day hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

If your case is complex, ask for a case assessor.
(After 5 p.m. the 211 operator will only be able to give you telephone number; during the day they can refer you to a case manager or social worker).
The above Information was provided by calling 211.

TIP: For faster service, a social worker, case manager, or a delegated person from an agency, church, temple, or mosque may be able to make the referral so you have a definite appointment date.
Be sure and take the phone number in with you when you see the volunteer or staff member.
Let them know the name of the person who you contacted.
